Manchester actually came into town to star in 'Through the Threshold' a short film I recently finished, but I couldnt resist getting a few beauty shots while she was here. The croc was lying in the back ground for the kitchen scenes in the film, so I wanted to somehow tie it in with these.

I wanted a few images of kids in their natural elements. I love those. The backyard, The park, playing in their street clothes. I feel connected to the images in a way I don't feel when the child is posed and angry because they just want to PLAY!
So I grabbed my daughter, and my niece, and we all went to the park for a little activity, on one of the last of the warm days this year. Here are a few from the trip.

A deep breath. That's what I let out when this session was complete. It seriously ran me into the ground emotionally. That's OK. It happens. Part of me really enjoys the chaos that sometimes takes over my work.

That said: I titled this session, "To cool for school.", because to me, it feels like these two are in some sort of time out or an (in school suspension), simply for being deviants! I chose the shots where they looked bored and restless, or mean and aggressive. It seemed like they had been there, and maybe were forgot about. The entire concept came about once we pulled these chairs out. I had an entirely different idea with completely different wardrobe and feeling. Somehow it was pulled out from underneath of me. This is what...came about.

Part B: Part b is the more artistic side of me. These images I used were so plain, I needed something to speak about, a subject. It came to me that my sleep is something that is really huge on my mind. I have nightmare so vivid, unbelievable, and so real. My dreams are sometimes so bittersweet, It feels to hard to bare.
So this collection of series- will center around what is described above.

The first series, Part a of this two part session, is below. I may later title the series, but as of now Its just titled, That was just a dream. series one.

Its so odd to see my work reworked a year or so later. Its interesting to see how I'd edit them today versus how I edited them back then. Heres a few I worked on earlier today.

Oh how you move me...

With this session, I was digging deep for any sort of covered or hidden obsession, of what it didn't matter, Though it wasn't only about obsession, but justified obsession...and also unattainable obsession. I find that I am intrigued and saddened by what it can do to you mentally and even physically.

I had a visit from my sister and my nephew Wesley! Being around him makes you all warm inside. I cant get enough of those pudgy cheeks and those cute little baby feet! He's such a funny little guy.

A new do!

A few months before school started, Our five year old Haven came up to me with joy in her eyes. "Will you please cut me a Mohawk?" She asks me. My first thought was to laugh and say, "No way!" But it quickly occurred to me that she is creative and wanting to express herself, and who am I to stand in the way of that? Unfortunately her dad, not as expressive, quickly vetoed the idea. So I made her a ponytail Mohawk instead. It seemed to pass over until a week ago, When she snuck a pair of scissors and retreated behind the couch in the living room to get the job done herself.

Without looking into a mirror first, she ran into the kitchen where I was grudgingly cooking dinner. Her smile stretched from ear to ear. She screamed, "Mommy Look!" and rubbed her tiny hands all over her head, while spinning around to show me her masterpiece. My mouth dropped. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and I sort of did both at the same time. I said, "Oh my..Oh my...Oh Haven" While rubbing her little head myself. I then noticed the little bald spot right in the front. How in the world...? She hadn't even seen it. I held her up to see in the mirror. She laughed a second, then started to cry. She said, "I don't wanna go to school!"

At this point I didn't want her to go to school either. But the mother in me was going to fix it! This didn't have to be a bad thing. Many Chic's can rock a short do, and Haven was no exception. She had the perfect shaped head for it, and once we combed a few longer pieces from the back and trimmed up a few odd pieces, It actually kicked some ass. She was very excited about it. :)

This was a spur of the moment idea we had after a late night visit from Kara and Dan (Pictured below)- There was absolutely no planning for this. I just grabbed items that were already laying in my backyard. Kara thought to add the masks (Made by me and my family) and the robe. It was sooo Hot, But we were itching to do something creative and Dan was kind enough to be the subject with no cares about what we did to him, which is always a treat.

My sister. We joked about visitors coming to her house and having to talk with her around the pool. Every time I visit with them, she's in the pool, dipping down and under with these goggles on. Always a good laugh.

Market street revival

It was hot. I was inside working when a neighbor called me about this event around the corner from me. "People are getting baptized in tubs on market street!" she says. It only took a few seconds for me to glance down at my camera. We made our way over, and it was PACKED! People were everywhere. Church members stood on a stage, in the middle of the street with a megaphone. Everywhere I turned I heard a different language, screaming & praying into the sky. If I didnt know any better, I'd be horrified. Fortunatly I'm aware of the typical church customs. I squeezed in as close as I possibly could. I may as well have been working for them, as close as I was in the mix of them. I looked to my side to see members from the church looking down at me possibly apprehensive. It seemed they wanted to tell me to stop, but decided against it.

These are still shots for a stop motion I'll be putting together. If your not familiar with stop motions, its basically just a collection of images, sped up to a second or so a piece. Did you ever take a new pack of post-its, draw an image on each post it, and then fan them out so it looks like movie? There you go. I've made a few of these in the past, and they are always tons of fun.

I'm not sure what the concept behind this short will be as of yet. It was really spur of the moment. I'll update once I've figured it all out. I really dig these two images below.

I am in heaven when I look at these images. They mean so much to me. We were in the backyard, listening to music, landscaping, drawing pictures. I brought my camera. It had just rained. Little drops were staying put on the dead leaves, on the dead rose bush. Something so simple...and plain, when zoomed in and illuminated, really turns out to be a thing of beauty. I look for these things when I shoot.

Withering Elm Jewelry shoot.

I shot a set for withering elm jewelry, here in Louisville Kentucky. I am mostly known for my colorful theatrics, but Katy (Designer and owner) wanted something a little more earthy, a little more natural. I was pumped, and ready for a fresh route.

We went out to her uncles farm on an overcast day. Of course, I loved the light. It was perfect for what she wanted, and for what I wanted as well. One of the best things about summer is WATER! Louisville has a huge water park on the waterfront, and there isnt a day that goes by, where it isn't FILLED with smiling faces!
